The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) will start the recruitment process for Civil Services for the Preliminary exam 2023 for about 712 vacancies. Candidates willing to apply for the exam can start registering from the first week of February onwards. Candidates can check the details of the UPSC exam and its application procedure below.
In 2022, the official notification for UPSC 2022 exam was released on 2nd February 2022 along with the application form window. The application window was opened till 22nd February 2022. The window for application withdrawal was active from 1st March to 7th April 2022. The UPSC Prelims exam 2022 was conducted on 5th June 2022 and UPSC 2022 Mains was conducted from 16th to 25th September 2022. The delay was inadvertently the outcome of the circumstances developed by COVID 19.
UPSC apply online 2023 procedure will begin after the release of the official notification regarding the exam, i.e. from 1st February, 2023 onwards. The registration window is expected to stay active until 21st February, 2023.

Refer the following steps to apply online for UPSC 2023 exam:
- For UPSC applications online, go to the official website of UPSC and click on the “Apply online” button. You will be redirected to a new page after clicking on it. Hover onto the “Online Application for Various Exams” tab and choose the UPSC Civil Services exam by clicking on it.
- After clicking on it, you will be directed to a new page. Now click on “Part-1 Registration”.
- Input all your personal details such as name, age, address, etc. on the Part-1 Registration page. Do recheck and confirm that you have entered all the details correctly, as you won’t be able to make any change after submitting the Part-1 form.
- Post submitting the Part-1 Registration form, you will be directed to fill the Part-II registration form. Input all your educational qualifications and upload all the mandatory documents such as ID proof, educational certificates, signature, etc. in the Part-II form.
- Fill up your exam center preferences and input your email ID for future communications.
- At the end, click on “I Agree” and submit the application form after making the payment. Note down your Registration Number and save it for future reference.
If due to any reason or circumstance you wish to withdraw your UPSC exam’s application then do visit the official website of UPSC when the withdrawal window opens.
Steps to withdraw the UPSC exam application:
- Open the official website of UPSC and click on the section “What’s New”.
- Click and open the link “Withdrawal of Application: Civil Services Examination, 2023”.
- Now open the link for application withdrawal.
- Read the given instructions carefully and hit the ‘Yes’ button.
- Input your Registration ID and press continue.
- Fill in your details including your name, gender, DOB, mobile number, email ID, etc.
- Choose the application withdrawal option and click on agree.
UPSC exam Application fee
SC/ST/PwD categories and female candidates are exempted from paying any fees for the UPSC exam. However, the application fees for the general/EWS and OBC male candidates is 100 INR for the UPSC Prelims exam and INR 200 for the UPSC Mains exam.
Important things to remember while filling the application form for UPSC exam:
- You have to register and submit the application form only on the official website of UPSC.
- Fill all the details with utmost accuracy. Do not leave any important space empty.
- If it is necessary for you to make any change in the application form then submit a new application with the updated information. UPSC only considers the latest registration ID and rejects the old ones.
- You cannot change to optional subjects, exam centers, Choice of language for the paper cannot be changed after submitting the application form.
- Do upload the latest scanned copy of your photo and signature. Convert each image to PDF format and keep the size in the range of 20-300 KB.
