Jamaal German, 30, was arrested on Monday morning for attempting to abduct a student from Redland Middle School who was waiting at a bus stop in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
The victim, aged between 11 to 13, was standing at the bus stop with friends when German grabbed them and pulled them towards an apartment building.
Brave students who were also waiting at the bus stop intervened, and the victim was able to break free.
Maryland Country Police identified Germany as the suspect, and he was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
The incident was reported to the school’s Community Engagement Officer, and a joint letter from the principals at Resnik Elementary, Redland Middle School, and Magruder High School informed families of the incident.
The bus stop where the attempted abduction occurred is used by students from these three schools.
Police are investigating the incident, and detectives from the Special Victims Investigation Division are asking for anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of Germany to call 240-773-5400.
The motive for the attempted abduction is unclear, and bond information for Germany is not currently available.
