Reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur is planning to sack head coach Antonio Conte this week, just 16 months after he took up the position.
Although the team is currently in fourth place in the Premier League, the Italian coach’s recent post-match outburst following the club’s draw with Southampton is said to have been the last straw for the Spurs hierarchy.
Conte’s squad had recently suffered defeats in the FA Cup and Champions League and were leading the game on the south coast with 13 minutes to go before conceding two goals.
In his post-match comments, the coach slammed his own “selfish” players and rejected talk of any uncertainty over his future as “excuses” for a team that has failed to win a trophy since 2008.
The former Chelsea boss’s contract was due to end in the summer and he has so far been reluctant to discuss any possibility of renewing his contract with the club. While Spurs have not made any comment on the matter, it appears they may be ready to part ways with Conte.
