Who is the Louisville shooter who killed four people at bank? What we know about suspect, motive.

A lone gunman who attacked the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville killed four and wounded eight others, authorities said, including two police officers.

The shooter, whose name has not yet been made public, died in an exchange of gunfire with police, investigators said. They had not yet determined whether the man killed himself or was shot by responding officers. Authorities said the shooter fired multiple times inside the building.

The attack happened around 8:30 a.m. local time, about 30 minutes before the bank opened to the public.

“I want to reiterate that there is no active threat,” Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said . “We believe this is a lone gunman involved in this that did have a connection to the bank. We’re trying to establish what that connection was to the business…”

What was the Louisville shooter’s motive?

Authorities have not yet released specific information about the shooter or his possible motive. They described him as a “lone gunman” with a connection to the bank.

“It appears the shooter was – I don’t know if it was an active employee or a former employee – but the shooter did have a connection to the location,” Humphrey said.

How did the shooter die?

Humphrey said officers’ decision to confront the shooter immediately “absolutely saved people’s lives.” He said investigators are reviewing whether the shooter killed himself or was shot by officers.

“Ultimately that suspect did die at the scene,” he said. “We are trying to confirm if that suspect did die of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or was killed by officers at this time.”

What gun was the shooter carrying?

Authorities have not yet released specific information about the gun used in the shooting.

What connection does the bank have?

In an emotional press conference, Gov. Andy Beshear said he ran his 2015 campaign for attorney general from the bank building, and knows many of the people who work there.”I know virtually everyone in it. That’s my bank,” Beshear said, tearing up. “This is awful. I have a very close friend that didn’t make it today. And I have another close friend who didn’t either. And one who’s at the hospital that I hope is going to make it through.”
