Coriander is a traditional herb that is a part of Indian cooking as a seasoning. This annual herb plant is grown for its fruit and green leaves that adds rich flavour to any cuisine. Coriander’s dry seeds are also used to create essential oils. These essential oils used in the pharmaceutical industry, confectionery as fragrances and as well to flavour liquors.

The green leaves of this plant are rich in Vitamin C. People in India love making soups, chutneys, and sauces with these leaves. Moreover, these plants have good medicinal properties that helps in aiding the overall health of any being.

Moreover, in India, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan are leading producers of coriander plants. Interested in cultivating coriander? Before you go on inquiring about Mahindra 575 di price, take note of what agri-resources & techniques are useful for growing this high-value green plant.

Technical Factors Required to Sow, Grow & Harvest Coriander

Here are some technical factors and tips that you must consider to ensure high-yielding crop production.

Climatic Conditions

The temperature for growing coriander should be between 15-28°C. However, specifically during the growth stage, it should be between 22-28°C and 15-25°C during the harvesting stage. Moreover, the annual rainfall should range between 75-100 cm to ensure good quality harvest.

Soil Requirements

Coriander can grow over any type of soil but it should be well-drained. Ensure the soil ph level is between 8-10. Consider performing soil analysis to ascertain that the soil is not too acidic or too saline.

Land Preparation

It is the most important and initial step of for the good grow of coriander.  Before sowing seeds, provide your land enough tilth or ploughing at least 2-3 times. Following this, provide effective planking to make concise and uniform beds for sowing seeds. But right before last ploughing, to make the soil fertile, add well composed cow dung @ 40 qtl/acre in soil. Make sure to use good quality farming tractors like Mahindra 415 that can operate a range of tillage implements without decompacting the soil.

Seed Sowing

If growing for vegetative purposes, the ideal time for sowing seed is 1st week of October. However, if growing for the seed purpose, finish the sowing between the last week of October to 1st week of November.

And keep following technical dimensions in mind:

  • Ensure the row to row distance is 30 cm and plant to plant spacing as 15 cm.
  • Sow the seeds at a depth of not more than 3 cm.
  • Pora is an advanced method that people prefer for sowing coriander seeds. It is a mechanical method with which seeds are dispersed and dropped through a funnel-like structure.

Seed Rate & Treatment

If you are sowing on one acre of land, the seed sowing rate should be 8-10 kg. Cluttering the space with seeds will restrict the proper growth of plants, so avoid that. If you wish to experience faster germination, crush the seeds in two parts & then sow it.

  • Seed treatment

You must soak the seeds in water for 8-12 hours for effective yield. To ensure this doesn’t wilt or lead to any root rot and certain diseases, soak the seeds in 4gm/kg Trichoderma viride/ Pseudomonas fluorescens.

Watering & Irrigation

For coriander, the soil has to be moist enough to ensure high-yielding growth. The first and foremost irrigation should be provided right after sowing the seeds. However, the further irrigations should be provided at an interval of 10 – 12 days max.

Harvesting of coriander

Coriander plants are ready to harvest when the crop reaches a height of 20-25 cm and leaves start to turn green. The crop is ready to harvest in April month, if the crop is grown for seed purpose. Ensure you start harvesting the crop once the capsule appears mature and green in colour. But don’t over-ripe the capsule, as you will get less price for them in the market.

Plant protection

Coriander is frequently attacked by leaf-eating caterpillars and semi-loopers while it is a seedling, and aphids attack it when it is in bloom. we have to spray the crop with methyl demeton (0.05%) to eliminate the aphids, during the flowering stage, any insecticide would kill the bee population, which would hinder the pollination of the crop.

Post harvesting treatment for coriander

After the harvesting process, dry out the crops for 6-7 days in partial sunlight. Once the seeds appear dry, perform threshing and cleaning tasks afterwards.

Hope with above tips, you will grow and harvest high-yielding coriander crops in your preferred state. Just ensure adding good farming machinery to multiply the crop production and returns. These tips will help you to grow the high coriander.
