The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has recently issued a warning regarding the safety and well-being of Igbos living in Lagos State. The group has declared that any attacks on their community will no longer be tolerated and has encouraged Igbos to consider relocating to the Eastern Region.
IPOB’s Statement and Response to Anti-Igbo Sentiments
In the statement released by IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, the group denounced the recent acts of intimidation against Igbos in Lagos during the presidential and governorship elections. The silence of Yoruba political, traditional, and religious leaders on these issues has led IPOB to believe that they support the forced ejection of Igbos from Lagos.
Defending the Igbo Community
The group has advised Igbos to form defensive groups in order to protect themselves from potential harm. They further noted that those responsible for the attacks will soon regret their actions.
IPOB’s Support for the Eastern Region to Relocate
IPOB encourages Igbos to consider relocating from Lagos to the Eastern Region, where they have existing markets that can accommodate those moving from Lagos. The group has vowed to support the development and expansion of international markets in the Eastern Region, urging newly elected governors and House of Assembly Members to facilitate this process.
