Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the February 25 elections, recently declared President-elect Bola Tinubu cannot be sworn in as Nigeria’s president.
In an interview with Arise TV, Datti emphasized that Tinubu’s inauguration would be “as good as swearing in a military regime.”
Datti contended that there was a constitutional violation during the presidential election that resulted in Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential candidate, being elected.
According to the vice presidential candidate, the certificate of return given to the former Lagos Governor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no legal worth.
Datti stated that it is unacceptable to have a President-elect when a constitutional violation has occurred, and there is a straightforward interpretation of Section 134 and INEC’s interpretation of Section 134.
He also claimed that Tinubu is not the President-elect but rather holds a worthless certificate.
Datti stressed that swearing in Tinubu as President would be an infringement of the constitution and akin to swearing in a military regime.
