France national team manager, Didier Deschamps, has explained his decision to name Kylian Mbappé as the team captain instead of Antoine Griezmann.
In an interview with Tout le Sport on France 3, Deschamps stated that Mbappé was the natural and logical choice to lead Les Bleus.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward ticked all the boxes necessary to be the team’s captain, and he also expressed interest in the role.
Deschamps acknowledged that Griezmann knew he was a candidate for the captaincy, but he stressed that giving the armband to Mbappé does not take anything away from Griezmann.
The manager stated that he had spoken with Griezmann about the situation, but he ultimately felt that Mbappé was the best choice for the captaincy.
